Ohm Boy Origins Volume II Nic Salts Review
Summary: The Ohm Boy Volume II range is all about unique and exotic fruit flavours. Apple, Elderflower and Garden Mint is something very special but all come recommended. They will suit a wide range of tastes and could add something a little more exciting to your e-liquid stash. High quality nicotine salts, made in the UK with love.
Origins Volume II
Ohm Boy e-liquids are created and bottled here in the UK. A brand that’s been dedicated to creating complex flavour blends, they are back again with the Volume II range. These liquids are somewhat of a relaunch, with new options and beautiful new labeling and packaging that really make them stand out. Volume II is available in both zero nicotine short fill bottles and 10ml nicotine salt variants, which is what I have here to review. Blended to a 50/50 VG/PG mix, the new nicotine salt range is perfect for modern pod systems and any MTL vaper that needs a good strong nicotine kick in their device to get them through the day.
Available only in 20mg nicotine, I’m testing the range of flavours in a Voopoo Drag Nano Pod Kit. The coils in this pod system are 1.8 ohm, and should work perfectly with these liquids. There are a total of five flavours in the range: Valencia Orange and Passion Fruit; Sweetwater Grape and White Peach; Rhubarb, Raspberry and Orange Blossom; Cranberry, Apple and Raspberry; and finally Apple, Elderflower & Garden Mint. They all sound absolutely amazing and I’m really looking forward to seeing if these complex flavours will come across in a low powered device like the Drag Nano Pod.
Cranberry Apple and Raspberry
Diving in head first I’m going to start with the one that appeals the most, Cranberry, Apple and Raspberry. I don’t think I’ve ever vaped anything with a cranberry flavour before; it’s not really a taste I’m familiar with either. I’m a huge fan of raspberry flavours though, especially when they are done well and I’m happy to say that is the case here. It plays really nicely with what I presume is the cranberry, which comes across as a nice tangy contrast to the overall sweetness of the liquid. The apple sits a little lower in the mix, providing a nice crisp base for the berries to sit on top of. Although it does come through a little stronger on the exhale which adds a nice crisp and refreshing finish to the overall taste. There’s no throat hit to speak of, the nicotine salts in this liquid are very smooth. Overall it’s a nice refreshing flavour that would appeal to many fans of fruit vapes and it has a thoughtful combination of elements that really work well together.
Sweetwater Grape and White Peach
Next is Sweetwater Grape and White Peach. I should confess I have no idea what a Sweetwater grape is, but google tells me that written as one word it usually refers to a place. So I’ll presume that this is supposed to be a grape from that place. Regardless, this is a fantastic grape flavour, it’s really sweet and juicy. There’s certainly a good amount of authenticity to the flavour too, it’s very close to eating a real grape. It’s also balanced with the peach well, the peach sits a little further behind in the mix and it’s quite a delicate flavour but it has plenty of fragrance.
Valencia Orange and Passion Fruit
Valencia Orange and Passion Fruit however is not so delicate and in comparison has a real punch to the flavour. The orange is quite zesty and has a delicious sweet and sour taste. Combined with the passion fruit, which adds another layer of tartness, it’s quite a potent brew. I could see myself enjoying both these flavours at different times of the day. They are both very different but compliment each other really well. Overall both of these flavours offer something fairly unique, they might be appear to be similar to other flavours available but I’ve never tasted any quite like these. Again, they’ve done a really good job with the balance and there’s something quite British about the taste of these two.
Rhubarb, Raspberry and Orange Blossom
Rhubarb, Raspberry and Orange Blossom in the pod next. Confession number two, I’ve never really liked rhubarb, so it’s with some trepidation that I taste this for the first time. It’s a very authentic rhubarb flavour, the raspberries and orange blossom are almost background notes to me. It’s well balanced and quite tart. If you love rhubarb I’m sure you’ll think this is one of the most amazing e-liquids you’ve ever tasted. If you don’t, like me, then I wouldn’t recommend it. If you are looking for something different then give it a try, because it is very different to the more usual fruit vapes.
Apple, Elderflower and Garden Mint
Finally we arrive at Apple, Elderflower and Garden Mint. This is the one that really excites me, it just sounds so good! It really is a unique and refreshing taste, the apple is right at the front and it’s sweet, crisp and delicious. It’s been enhanced to perfection with some light floral notes from the elderflower that add an almost herby quality. Finished off with the taste of fresh garden mint on the exhale that conjurers up images of something like a Pimms cocktail on a hot summers day. I’m not sure it gets much better than this for an all day vape. This one will be staying in my Drag Pod for the foreseeable future.
Summary and Overall Conclusion
The nicotine salts in these liquids are smooth and provide a good nicotine strength for use in a small device. I found they worked really well in the Drag Nano Pod that I tested them in and they come highly recommended for that purpose. The complex nature of the flavours stood up well and all the layers in the flavours were easy to taste. Being a 50/50 blend the amount of vapour is moderate and exactly as you would want in a smaller, stealthy device. If you like the sound of these flavours but use a sub-tank or RDA for DTL vaping then you can find all of them available as 70% VG short fills too. I think it’s great that Ohm Boy offer both so everyone can enjoy them.
